Reminder: Green Living (June 2011)

Don't forget! Next Saturday (6/26) is the Green Living class, hosted in the lovely Texas Hill Country. Below is more info from Jay about what he will be covering. Please RSVP in the comments if you plan to attend, and see previous post for location/time info.

I think we have all been hammered by pleas for being “environmentally responsible,” with mind numbing statistics about climate change and our own private “carbon footprint.” I assumed you don’t want to hear any more philosophy lessons on “sustainability” but are interested in some practical information - less idealistic rhetoric and more realistic pragmatism.

I’ll be suggesting some rules of thumb to help you make basic decisions about your home, not become a scientist. Looking for things that have the most impact for a limited budget. Feeling good about going green with less money AND less guilt? Frugal superiority?

What are the best ways to reduce your apartment or house utility bills?
What are the things that contribute the most to your comfort?
What do some of the terms being thrown around mean - and when you forget them where can you look them up?
Maybe the mysteries of selecting a light bulb (A19, LED, CFL, HID) will be resolved for you.

Bring questions about your own place for the Q&A.
Questions on native plants, rain water and construction accepted…and maybe answered.

If this wonderful weather continues we’ll be meeting in the air conditioning and making a brief excursion to look at our rain water collection system - and the 1959 Airstream that Lynne is restoring.
