Homemade Pickles (April 2011)

Patty Burns has offered to teach us how to pickle our own vegetables next month! I don't know about you, but learning how to pickle things has been a lifelong goal of mine, so I'm very excited about it. Here's the deal:

When: April 17th, 10am to 4pm (***note time change from first posting)

Where: French House Co-op (710 W. 21st St, 78705)

What to bring:
1. glass jars (should be the kind with the flat disk and metal ring that goes on top - various sizes available at HEB).
2. spices (fresh garlic, dill, hot pepper, or a combo, depending on your preference)
3. pre-cut vegetables (cut for the size you want for pickles. again, your choice on the type, but Patty says any of the following are delicious - green beans, onions, apples, watermelon rinds, carrots, hot peppers, cauliflower, and cucumbers)
4. $5 (for the other ingredients that Patty is supplying)

Additional info: Patty has secured us access to the enormous kitchen at French House Co-op, so we will have plenty of space. You MUST RSVP so we know how many people to expect. Please reply in the comments if you plan on coming. Get ready to get your pickle on!
